2016 Algueira Joven Mencia Ribeira Sacra

SKU #1336141 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This is one young, unoaked 2016 Mencía looking to be an everyday wine, easy to drink that still shows the varietal character, with some notes of honey and beeswax intermixed with wild berries and an herbal twist. This is produced with purchased and Algueira grapes. The palate is vibrant and has acidity and clout to develop nicely in bottle. You can drink this now and enjoy the freshness of the fruit or wait and get some more complexity. (8/2017)

K&L Notes

Algueira proves with this wine that they not only excel at making first rate, oak aged wine from their Ribeira Sacra holdings, but a delicious unoaked example as well. This bottling typically shows spicy dark cherry and plum fruit, and a delightfully fresh and crisp palate. Nuanced, layered flavors for a mere unoaked young Mencia based wine. Very highly recommended!

Another stupendous value from the Sacred Riverbank. The nose is full of high toned wild red fruit, flinty minerals, fresh hibiscus. On the lighter side of things, but still with great character and an undeniable quaffability. I like the Sacras because they tend to have more acidity than the Bierzo and overs a ton of wine for your dollar.
