Four Roses K&L Exclusive OESK (10 Year Old) Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon (750ml)

SKU #1333680

The final barrel from our April 2017 trip. Bottled on October 18th, it's just reached the magical 10 year old number. Now this whiskey was just as stupendous when it was 9 years old, but it is nice to see that nice round 10 on the bottle once again. The OESK is quickly becoming a favorite of ours, it has intensity and spice that some of the other yeast strains do not exhibit. The low rye mashbill at Four Roses is actually really a high rye bourbon, but the added corn balances out the intense spice of the K strain perfectly. The nose goes directly into the spice drawer opening up with pink pepper corn, cinnamon, clove, sweet bay and lacquer. Behind the strong spice is the tiniest hint of bananas flambé. The palate is surprisingly sweet and textural with the corn really coming through. Big notes of roasted orange peel, dark sweet oak and sweet grains balance the building spice on the back end. Definitely drinks like it's 110 proof, but in the best way possible.

Another single barrel home run that pulls you in like 100 against 1 tug-o-war. Sweet fruits on the nose are balanced by the lightly spiced "K" yeast strain. A touch of salinity, fresh cigar box with tobacco spilling out, and a bit of candle wax. This one is gonna go fast.

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
