2010 Palari Faro Sicilia

SKU #1331182 95 points Decanter

Outer quote mark The nose is lean and intense, with aromas of sour cherries and a hint of coffee. Although very concentrated, it's silky, fresh and lively, with almost tangy acidity. It shows elegance and poise rather than plumpness and weight, and the tannins are well integrated. Very long, with great potential. (SB) Inner quote mark (3/2018)

Outer quote mark From the tiny Faro denomination overlooking the Strait of Messina, this cult red opens with earthy aromas of tilled soil, leather, dried berry, smoke, savory herb and a hint of game. Displaying compelling earthy elegance, the palate offers black cherry, raspberry, tobacco, truffle, tobacco, soil, graphite and licorice. It's still young but impeccably balanced, with firm but fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Hold for even more complexity. *Cellar Selection* (KO) Inner quote mark (4/2015)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark From a very good vintage in Sicilian winemaking, the 2010 Faro Palari is an elegant and classic expression. This wine is more floral than the other vintages I've tasted and it shows more exotic flavors of Indian spice, cardamom and lightly crushed clove. There's a slightly soapy aroma of lavender flower or rose potpourri. The wine most definitely underlines that Salvatore Geraci trademark signature. It's a wine of light lines and deep finesse with delicate berry aromas that are intertwined with spice, dried flowers and licorice. The 2010 vintage taste very young to me, and should probably age another year or two in the bottle before you pop the cork. The bouquet is still a bit shut down. But the intensity and the inner harmony of the wine bode well for its future aging potential. (ML) Inner quote mark (10/2015)

91 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark Dark forest-floor scents of mushrooms and wild herbs mingle with juicy red berry flavors in this blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Capuccio and Nocera. The wine rested one year in new French oak barriques, picking up notes of espresso and cardamom. Oak tannins tighten the flavors, suggesting a few more years in the cellar before opening with braised beef. Inner quote mark (6/2017)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Same lift as the 2010 Rosso del Soprano but more intense. Vibrant and concentrated on the palate.Succulence and concentration and yet so elegant. Lots of perfumed red fruit and dark cherry on the finish. Quite tannic for the moment. One for the cellar. 18/20 points (WS) Inner quote mark (5/2013)
