2016 Arnaldo Caprai "Grecante" Grechetto (Previously $18)

SKU #1328953 91 points James Suckling

A dense white with a lightly chewy texture and lots of dried apple and pear character. Full body. Flavorful and beautiful. Tangy acidity at the end. Drink now. (10/2017)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

I'd definitely put this wine on a list of favorite value whites from Italy. The 2016 Colli Martani Grechetto Grecante makes your mouth happy as soon as the wine hits the palate. The bouquet is racy and zesty with crisp notes of lime, green papaya and tropical fruit. Despite the liveliness of the mouthfeel, the wine plays even stronger cards in terms of texture and fiber. 90+ points. (ML) (12/2017)

Wine Spectator

This bright white is light- to medium-bodied, with a pleasing mix of red apple, peach skin and blood orange zest flavors, followed by a lightly spiced, stony finish. Drink now through 2020. (AN, Web-2018)

K&L Notes

In the Renaissance tradition, there are many wines defined as "Greci, Grecanti, Grechetti." The Grecante of Montefalco was among the celebrated wines of this variety and was historically given as a precious gift by farmers to the princes and cardinals of the community. Arnaldo Caprai keeps this tradition alive in this 100% Grechetto, delightful, medium-bodied and fresh white, characterized by a bright yellow color. It is intensely fruity yet offers delicate floral notes. Soft, well-balanced and pleasantly round on the palate, this makes a delicious aperitif or accompaniment to fish and white meats. Try it with pan-fried sole fillets baked in a lemon sauce, Italian style.

- Once named Enotria for its abundant vineyards, Italy (thanks to the ancient Greeks and Romans) has had an enormous impact on the wine world. From the shores of Italy, the Romans brought grapes and their winemaking techniques to North Africa, Spain and Portugal, Germany, France, the Danube Valley, the Middle East and even England. Modern Italy, which didn't actually exist as a country until the 1870s, once produced mainly simple, everyday wine. It wasn't until the 1970s that Italy began the change toward quality. The 1980s showed incredible efforts and a lot of experimentation. The 1990s marked the real jump in consistent quality, including excellence in many Region that had been indistinct for ages. The entire Italian peninsula is seeing a winemaking revolution and is now one of the most exciting wine Region in the world.
