Miquel Pons Cava Brut Penedes

SKU #1328729 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Light gold. Musky aromas of pear skin, peach and herbs, plus a hint of honey. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering good depth to its sappy orchard fruit flavors. Shows a lot of ripe fruit for a wine that got no dosage. The smooth finish offers good clarity and decent persistence. This fruity Cava would be a good match for salty or spicy foods. Wine Spectator

Definitely a dry-style cava, this features lightly chalky acidity and flavors of green pear, lemon zest and ginger, with a persistent thread of smoke throughout. This is light-bodied, offering a citrusy finish. Drink now. (AN) (12/2010)

K&L Notes

Based in the Penedes village of La Granada, Miquel Pons makes this crisp, clean cava with the indigenous grapes of the region: Xarel-lo, Macabeu and Parellada. Aged anywhere from 12-16 months, this is very refreshing with tasty fruit and a dry finish.

Here is a sophisticated and elegant sparkler that sells for less than $10.00. This is dry and bracing with a middle filled with stone fruit and melon flavors and a long finish of talc and mineral. This is fine enough for fancy dinners but priced for picnics and parties.

This energetic Cava is bursting with spicy quince and tart green apple peel, with a fine mousse and a burst of acidity and minerality mid-palate that catapult to a long and racy finish. The Miquel Pons Cava is a fantastic aperitif for your gathering, and has the heft to accompany most seafood, vegetarian or chicken dishes.

Talk about a deal for the upcoming Holidays! Beautiful orchard fruit on the nose accompanied by notes of lilies and sea spray. On the palate, it checks all the boxes for quality sparkling: clean, ample fruit, and a dry, crisp finish. Notes of red delicious apple and pear play with a light brioche toast and saline qualities. Easily one of the best under-$10 sparkling we are currently offering company-wide
