2016 Mas Codina Cabernet Sauvignon Penedes

SKU #1327905

Mas Codina is an estate in the middle Penedes, about an hour's drive from Barcelona. They own about 40 hectares, most of which are planted to Xarel-lo, Macabeu, Parellada, and Pinot Noir, with some Syrah, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon as well. While they have been farming organically for a while, they will be certified organic beginning with the 2017 vintage. Proprietors Toni and Jordi Garrida make terrific wine, and while many of our customers have come to rely on their delicious, value sparkler, we expect this tasty, humble Cab to turn many heads as well! *Organic*

A lovely medium-bodied Cabernet with each and every virtue you have come to expect from the varietal. I wholeheartedly recommend this excellent value-priced wine for large gatherings and special occasions. It is organically farmed, with certification arriving for the following vintage.

One of our favorite Cava producers, Mas Codina dabbles in a diverse selection of grapes on the side. This Cabernet is impossibly good for the price, boasting ripe blackberries, soft tannins and a dynamic core of earth, mocha and peppery herbs. It is a dream with food or on its own, and an easy choice for dinner parties. Yet another testament to the tremendous value offered in Spanish wines.

What a treat! A producer more known for the production of excellent Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) now brings us their foray into the world of Penedes red wine with a deceptively delicious, and super affordable Cabernet Sauvignon. Black cherry, blueberry compote, raisins, eucalyptus, and spicy bell pepper are present and vivid in this extremely crowd-friendly bottling.
