 The dense purple 2008 Nemesis (always the heaviest in Syrah, with 85% Syrah and the rest Grenache and Mourvedre) is still youthful and intense, with plenty of body and hints of asphalt, graphite, blackberry and blueberry fruit, with some licorice and white chocolate. It is deep, full-bodied, rich, and should prove to be one of the longest lived wines of the 2008s from Trevisan, lasting well past a decade. (RP)  (8/2010)

 Opaque ruby. Complex, decadent aromas of blackberry liqueur, licorice, black cardamom, spicecake and espresso. Deep, sweet and tactile on the palate, offering dense dark fruit flavors and surprising energy. Finishes with a firm tannic backbone and lingering bitter chocolate, blackberry compote and candied licorice notes. Forget this one for a few years, at least. Incidentally, the 2007 Overthinker is showing intense spiciness and smoky character right now, with a vibrant core of red fruit and excellent clarity. Readers who own it should keep their hands off. "Matt Trevisan is one of Paso Robles’ up-and-coming stars," writes Robert Parker. "He’s doing everything right, and it’s good to see him planting a new estate vineyard of nearly 18 acres, building a new wine cellar, and taking full advantage of the gorgeous limestone soils on the hillsides of West Paso Robles. Trevisan has also been ahead of the curve in realizing that the finest Paso Robles wines are usually blends. Undeniably, he has demonstrated a Midas touch when it comes to assembling innovative blends. He is also the only winemaker in this region that I know of who is doing terrific work with Zinfandel, using it as the core component in some diverse as well as creative blends. His wines spend time in an assortment of different sized oak barrels, little of it new."

The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. - Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
