Named for the gunpowder tea that’s part of the botanical mix, this bone-dry gin offers juniper, anise, caraway and lime peel on the nose. The palate opens with grapefruit, finishing long and astringent on pink peppercorn, caraway and a flicker of alcohol heat. Mix into martinis. (KN)

K&L Notes
This wonderful new gin from the curious mind of PJ Rigney is distilled at the Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, Ireland. Mr. Rigney and his wife opened the Shed distillery in rural Ireland in 2016. It is County Leitrim's first new distillery in 101 years. Their experiments began with the desire to infuse eastern botanicals with local Irish plants. Utilizing very old Medieval style pot stills and a vapor basket, they've created one of the most unique and approachable new gins on the market. Named for the use of Gunpowder green tea, but so much more than just a tea flavored gin. Gunpowder tea is slowly air dried and compressed into pellets of pure flavor intensity. The tea is loaded into the vapor basket along with the citrus elements (lemon, lime, and grapefruit) before being distilled over an infusion of exotic botanicals (juniper, angelica, orris, caraway, coriander, meadowsweet, cardamom, star anise). The result is one of the easiest drinking, yet most satisfyingly complex gins on the market. Drink this with less intense tonics so as not to mask the incredible depth of the gin itself or try it chilled straight up.
