2015 Umathum "Traminer" Burgenland (Biodynamic)

SKU #1310695

50% Gelber Traminer, 50% Roter Traminer. Importer's Notes: "The vines for this blend come from old vines (40+ years) on the East side of the Neuseidlersee lake, and the rest from the West side near the town of Jois. The soils are schist for the most part: mineralic and quite dry. Fermentation is old wooden casks followed by time on the yeast for stabilization, and then finished for another 6 months in the casks. From the winemaker: "White wine with bright golden yellow colour, Citrus and grapefruit in the nose with impressions of Roses and Honey, elegant and full - bodied on the palate, fine spicy sweetness, excellent with Asian cuisine and spicy dishes"

Other White Wines

- Austria is a well-respected wine-growing region in Europe. Yet, even though they make about a third the volume of wine as Germany, not many of these fine bottles make it to the shelves of American wine merchants or restaurants. Lucky for us, their anonymity has translated into incredible value from simple, everyday whites to exquisite dessert wines. Austria shares many grape varieties with Germany—Riesling is king here, too. But the style of Austrian whites is much dryer and more potent. Grüner Veltliner is Austria's second-most-important varietal and makes whites of great versatility and pleasure.
