2014 Pedesclaux, Pauillac

SKU #1309383 94 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark The first wine made at the new cellar, the 2014 Château Pédesclaux checks in as 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot aged in 65% new French oak. It's a beautiful wine in the vintage that has awesome purity and precision in its black raspberries, cassis, crushed flowers, and hints of river rock-like minerality. Medium-bodied, silky, pure, incredibly elegant and seamless, with gorgeous purity and elegance, it's a knockout wine in the vintage. Inner quote mark (10/2018)

93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark A solid 2014 with firm and silky tannins that give the wine tightness and focus. Full body. Lovely fruit and a flavorful finish. Racy and focused. Drink after 2024. Inner quote mark (2/2019)

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark From an up and coming property in Pauillac, this wine shows firm tannins and lively acidity on the palate, with a fruit kick on the finish. (RV) Inner quote mark (4/2015)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2014 Pédesclaux has a tightly wound bouquet with redcurrant and crushed strawberry fruit, cedar and cigar box aromas filtering through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, plenty of black fruit laced with cedar and black pepper, though it does not quite deliver the complexity that I think the 2015 will on the finish. Still, it is a very capable vintage from the rejuvenated château that is certainly going places in the same way that Pontet-Canet did in the 1990s. (NM) Inner quote mark (3/2017)

91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, new leather and cedar meld together in the 2014 Pédesclaux. Silky, supple and expressive even in its youth, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. The high percentage of Merlot in the blend gives Pédesclaux lovely juiciness and much of its soft, easygoing personality. The blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. Tasted two times. (AG) Inner quote mark (4/2015)

Outer quote mark Elegantly expressed ripe fruit, oak present, and potential class for the future. (SS) Inner quote mark (4/2015)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Tasted blind. Slightly greyish crimson. Slightly sweaty, sweet with the tannins a bit rasping on the finish. Not bad but with a little heat on the end. 16/20 points (JR) Inner quote mark (2/2018)

Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Fresh and engaging, with a vivid plum and cassis core spiked with anise details and backed by a lightly singed spice note on the finish. Shows a pure graphite edge. Approachable now. (JM) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

90+ points Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2014 Pédesclaux has a pinched bouquet that even after aeration does not really shine, certainly not like it did just after bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit that sport quite a strong marine-like/brine influence, almost Saint Estèphe in style towards the tertiary, slightly brutish finish that needs a couple of years to calm down. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting." (3/2018)
