2014 Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol

SKU #1308502 94 points James Suckling

Aromas of plums and chocolate with hints of walnuts. Medium body and integrated tannins that are soft and juicy. Even so, there’s lots of fruit and mineral character underneath; search it out! Need two or three years to open. (2/2017)

90 points Vinous

The 2014 Le Bon Pasteur is supple, open-knit and tasty. Super-ripe black cherry, smoke, mocha, tobacco and French oak give the wine its fleshy, seductive personality. The 2014 is not especially complex, but it is quite delicious. (AG) (2/2017)

90 points Wine Spectator

This has a succulent edge, with friendly raspberry and boysenberry confiture notes underscored by warm fruitcake flavors and a hint of ganache. (JM, Web-2017)

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
