K&L Notes

We're always looking for pricing that makes great Burgundy accessible to the masses, so when we saw these discounts we were intrigued. What made us truly excited was tasting the wines: they are serious, vineyard-first, expressive, age-worthy red Burgs that show the heights of the vintage. It is for this reason their list prices are among Burgundy's elite. Aurélien Verdet isn't a household name, but a parcel like this might just put him there, and quickly. Certified Biodynamic, Verdet crafts complex and no-compromise wines from some of Côte de Nuits finest sites. These are must-try wines for Burg enthusiasts and those looking to discover the region's true gems. Aurélien sources his Nuits-St-Georges from the Pertuis Maréchaux vineyard, which lies on the Vosne-Romanée side of the Nuits—a region renowned for its stylish, thoroughbred Pinot Noirs. The Pertuis Maréchaux vines are rooted in lighter limestone soils toward the top of the slope, resulting in a wine with an exceptionally elegant bouquet and smooth texture. Out of our trio of $34.99 offerings I can't decide which I like more between the Vosne Romanee and Nuits St. Georges. The Nuits St Georges true to form has a bit more structure and rusticity, but with that comes more complexity and age-worthiness. Red fruits and spice dominate from start to finish here with great energy and dusty tannins. An absolute delight this is a fabulous entry-level offering.

It has the structure you expect from Nuits St. Georges, as well as the opulence and weight on the mid-palate that their Vosne Romanee delivers. This is a wine that deserves some time in your cellar and will reward you for your patience or a few hours of decanting and a fine meal.

Nuits St. Georges muscle yet surprisingly fresh and forward. Complex nose of game, mineral, fresh red currants and cherry compote. Juicy finish and excellent length at this AC level. A solid choice and top value.

After visiting Burgundy, I understood why the greatest red wine of the world had to be so expensive. The place is tiny. Cinnamon and I rode half the Cote d'Or in a day in street clothes on rented cruiser bikes... And every wine fan in the world wants some. This is the rarest of birds- a ready to drink, robust Nuits St Georges from a great grower at a fantastic price. Don't wait, this will not last.
Drink from 2017 to 2029
