2015 Herman Story "Milk & Honey" Paso Robles Red Blend

SKU #1300714 92 points Jeb Dunnuck

Seeing 18 months in mostly new French oak, the 2015 Milk & Honey (with close to equal amounts each of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah) is another deep ruby/black colored effort that offers lots of leafy herbs, pepper, bay leaf, smoke tobacco and black fruits. Rich, concentrated, chewy and moderately tannin, it's another serious mouthful of fruit to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years. (JebDunnuck.com) (8/2017)

Inky ruby. Primary black and blue fruits, potpourri, peppery spices and a subtle hint of vanilla on the deeply perfumed nose. Sweet, concentrated boysenberry and cherry cola flavors spread out steadily in the mouth, picking up spiciness and a touch of candied flowers on the back half. Lush, broad and seamless in texture, finishing with impressive energy and smooth tannins that contribute shape and gentle grip. (JR) (11/2017)

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.

Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
