James Suckling
A captivating mix of ripe red plums with plenty of peppers, perfume, violets and spices, leading to a palate that has a stalky, sappy spine of pepper-dusted plums and savory meaty notes to close.

Another soot, tar, mineral, bacon fat and smoked dark fruit driven beauty is the 2014 Syrah Sur Echalas Vineyard. Made from 100% Syrah, this peppery, bloody, iodine, full-bodied, concentrated effort has building tannin, a great mid-palate and a salt-laced finish. It's another unique, singular beauty that's going to benefit from short term cellaring and keep for two decades. (JD)

Vinous
Bright, deep red; a bit darker than the Grenache. Pungent black raspberry, peppercorn, steak tartare and flint on the nose. Wonderfully plush and dense but with excellent definition and herbal/spicy lift to its rather wild, savory raspberry, soil and black pepper flavors. In a distinctly northern Rhône style, and not at all mainstream in the context of Washington, this compelling Syrah finishes with subtly building peppery perfume and very suave tannins. The high vine density brings physiological ripeness at lower Brix levels, says Baron. (ST)

Wine Enthusiast
Alluring and intense aromas of soot, campfire, charcuterie, black pepper, herb, crushed flowers and liquid stone lead to a broadly rich, intense, flavorful palate, absolutely loaded with fruit and savory flavors that glide on the extended finish. (SS)

Plump yet structured, with a delicate core of lively acidity and stony tannins, supported by rich black raspberry, tapenade and bacon flavors. (TF)

Decanter
From the high-density hillside vineyards planted in 2008. The fruit is fermented without destemming and aged in used casks. It shows an incredible concentration with an inky dark colour and very pronounced aromas that range from cassis, fig and chocolate to savory notes touched with bacon fat. The texture is dense, almost thick, and the finish has a sweet, honeyed character that plays up the density. (CC)
