2015 Tormaresca "Neprica" Puglia

SKU #1297337

Antinori moves south! Piero Antinori has been one of the leaders of the Italian wine industry for decades. He was involved in starting the Super Tuscan movement, developing coastal Tuscany and now he has turned his focus to Puglia. Antinori however sees the potential for quality at an exceptional price and with their incredible base of knowledge and skilled winemakers they have crafted some unique and delicious wines. The Tormaresca "Neprica" is made from Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Negroamaro and Primitivo by themselves sometimes lack balance or their flavors are too forceful yet with the addition of the Cabernet Sauvignon to the mix, well … Wow! Rich, complex, with loads of fruit yet balanced with a veil of structure that makes it eminently drinkable

I find most intriguing when french grapes grown in Italy acquire that "Non so che cosa"that makes it uniquely Italian. The Neprica has just that with its Cabernet Sauvignon. Very nice and approachable wine that is ready to go on any party, dinner, picnic and anywhere else you might want to take it along.

This slightly untraditional blend of negroamaro, primitivo and cabernet sauvignon will make you wonder why more Southern Italian winemakers are not convinced of cabernet's place among more native varietals. This value-packed red offers layers of raspberry, plum and black cherry fruits on the nose and palate, with light, spicy notes of licorice and a long finish for such an inexpensive wine. Ideal with pasta or the Pizza!

From the shores of Italy, the Romans brought grapes and their winemaking techniques to North Africa, Spain and Portugal, Germany, France, the Danube Valley, the Middle East and even England. Modern Italy, which didn't actually exist as a country until the 1870s, once produced mainly simple, everyday wine. It wasn't until the 1970s that Italy began the change toward quality. The 1980s showed incredible efforts and a lot of experimentation. The 1990s marked the real jump in consistent quality, including excellence in many Region that had been indistinct for ages. The entire Italian peninsula is seeing a winemaking revolution and is now one of the most exciting wine Region in the world.
