2014 Cara Nord Negre Catalan (Previously $18)

SKU #1296699 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A north-facing vineyard in the Catalan area of Spain, this 2014 Cara Nord red blend of 42% Grenache, 38% Syrah and 20% Garrut (an indigenous grape of Conca de Barbera, which is northeast of Priorat and Montsant) has produced a very fragrant Pinot Noir-style of wine, with notes of earth, forest floor, black and red currants, in a medium-bodied, easygoing, savory, lush style. Drink it over the next several years. (RP) (7/2015)

- With more land under vine than any other country in the world, Spain is the great sleeping wine giant. In recent years, a great deal of money and passion has been poured in the burgeoning Spanish wine industry, helping to improve quality among its vast array of wines from sparkling Cava to Sherry to Rioja Gran Reserva. The most important red-wine-producing regions are Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Navarra in the north and Priorat and Penedes in the northeast.
