2015 Domaine Diochon Moulin-á-Vent Vieilles Vignes

SKU #1288411 95 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Fabulous aromas of crushed raspberries, blueberries and flowers. Some tar, too. Full and tannic yet so supple and gorgeous. Just a baby. Made with vines of which some are over 125 years old. Superb wine. The Charmes-Chambertin of Beaujolais. Drink now or hold for many years. Inner quote mark (2/2017)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2015 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is a beautifully gourmand rendition of this dependably lovely wine, wafting from the glass with notes of mulberries, cherry preserve, dark chocolate and grilled squab. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with a layered, multidimensional profile and considerable reserves of substance and structure concealed by its lavish core of fruit. Despite its generosity, it also boasts the balance for sustained development in bottle. (WK) Inner quote mark (9/2018)

93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Vivid ruby. Powerful, intensely perfumed dark berry, cherry liqueur and licorice aromas, along with hints of star anise and musky earth. Sweet, penetrating and focused on the palate, offering sappy blackberry, floral pastille and succulent herb flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Plays richness and power off vivacity with a deft hand and finishes very long and sweet, with dusty tannins coming on late. (JR) Inner quote mark (1/2017)

K&L Notes

A producer note as written by Allen Meadows: "At the foot of the rolling vineyards of Moulin-à-Vent, just across the road from its famous namesake windmill, Domaine Diochon has been making Beaujolais since 1935. Bernard Diochon succeeded his father in 1967. As a torch bearer to the ancestral methods passed down to him Diochon uses traditional whole cluster fermentations, ages in large old oak foudres, and bottles unfiltered in the springtime. The vines, aged 40-100 years, are planted in crumbly granite soil making it easy for the roots to descend deeply. In 2007, Bernard wanted to retire but had no heirs. He appointed Thomas Patenôtre as his heir apparent." (Burghound.com, 06/2016)
