2014 Domaine Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis-Les Clos Grand Cru

SKU #1286998 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos as picked on September 17 and has the highest alcohol degree and still is a modest 13.3%. The nose is quite complex and cohesive with yellow flowers and honeysuckle, a touch of granite underneath. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, more weight and fruit intensity than the Vaudésir, and then it fans out with confidence towards the finish with some lovely candied orange peel notes. This is a superb Les Clos with a long future ahead. This year I made my regular visit to Domaine Drouhin-Vaudon on the outskirts of Chichée, and as usual, it was a picture of tranquility and timelessness. Like elsewhere, I tasted through the 2014s in bottle and the 2015s from pre-prepared barrel samples; as I expected, my preference lies with the former, which displayed more tension and minerality. At times, I felt that the 2015s came across a bit "woolly" on the finish and lacked a little structure, but hopefully this will be addressed by the time they are in bottle. For Chablis-lovers, their Les Clos and Bourgros are top notch, ditto their excellent Mont de Milieu. (NM) Inner quote mark (8/2016)

Outer quote mark Creamy, open, layered and fresh. Quite precise and pinched on the palate. (RH) Inner quote mark (1/2016)
