2014 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Pruliers" (Previously $100)

SKU #1286135 94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has an expressive bouquet with cranberry, raspberry and briary scents. Hints of damp earth and sous-bois develop with aeration. There is something very cohesive and focused about the aromatics here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, wonderful backbone and linearity, a sense of precision towards the finish that was not evident in previous vintages. There is superb length here, one of the best Les Pruliers from Gouges...thus far! Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte. (NM) Inner quote mark (10/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2015 Pruliers chez Gouges was a bit more closed down in cask than the Clos des Porrets, but shared the same purity and sappy core of the vintage here. The primary nose offers up a classically black fruity blend of cassis, dark berries, dark chocolate, venison, woodsmoke and that same topnote of currant leaf as found in the Clos des Porrets. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very well-balanced, with a rock solid core, fine soil signature, ripe tannins and a long, tangy and perfectly focused finish. This is still a very young wine and will demand some cellaring, but it will be excellent in the fullness of time. 93+ Inner quote mark (11/2016)

Outer quote mark A firmly structured red, sporting cherry, black currant, violet and mineral flavors. On the austere side, yet fluid, with a long, chalk and stone-infused finish. (BS) Inner quote mark (3/2017)

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark A subtle application of wood frames the spicy red and dark berry fruit that is liberally laced by notes of earth and game. I very much like the intensity and focused power of the concentrated medium weight flavors that display moderate rusticity and a touch of austerity on the impressively complex and persistent finale. Patience required. *Burghound Outstanding!* Inner quote mark (10/2017)

Outer quote mark Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Henri Gouges' 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers has quite a forward bouquet with bold red cherries, raspberry and light chocolaty scents that clearly need more time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit and quite juicy tannin that lend this an appealing fatness in the mouth, although it does not deliver the articulacy of some of the other Nuits-Saint-Georges that I have encountered from this vintage. This showed better out of barrel, but I suspect it will achieve a higher grade with 3-4 more years of bottle age. Tasted September 2017. Inner quote mark (10/2017)

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Red with ruby tones; a bit darker than the 2015. Very reticent nose conveys a plummy ripeness along with hints of redcurrant, earth and tobacco. Broad, dry and mouthfilling but stubbornly backward today and in need of patience. Still, the tannins are not particularly dry or hard, suggesting that this classically austere but ripe Nuits-Saint-Georges will repay patience. Cropped at just 34 hectoliters per hectare, according to Gregory Gouges. (ST) Inner quote mark (3/2017)
