This is structured and strong for a 2013 with white truffle and bright blueberry character. Full-bodied with firm and silky tannins. Bright finish.

(92-94 barrel sample) This is a bold, ripe, fruity wine, perfumed with fruit that’s already attractive. The tannins are dry, but balanced with the fruit. A good choice for medium-term aging. (RV)

The 2013 Pavie Macquin boasts striking depth, power and volume for the year. Resonant and layered on the palate, the 2013 possesses gorgeous depth and tons of intensity, not to mention remarkable purity. This is a gorgeous showing made all the more remarkable considering the late malos give the 2013 a distinctly raw, not fully formed feel. There is a lot to look forward to here. In 2013 the blend is 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvest started on October 4 with the Merlot and finished on October 15 with the Cabernets. Tasted twice. (AG)

This has a showy personality, with beautifully aromatic raspberry, blueberry and plum flavors that drape wonderfully over the velvety structure. Alluring black tea and warm plum cake notes add nuance on the finish. This has gained steadily since the barrel tasting. (JM)

Good medium ruby. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, menthol, violet and licorice. Lovely inner-mouth floral lift to the mineral and inky red and dark berry flavors; offers much more clarity and cut than most 2013 Bordeaux, not to mention depth and sweetness of fruit. The finish is especially pure and precise--and long. Plenty of hidden density here--especially impressive in the context of the vintage. I went out of my way to taste this wine four different times just to be sure of my extremely positive first impression. In many respects, this is one of the elite wines of the vintage: the nose alone rates 94 or 95 points. (ID)

The 2013 Pavie-Macquin has a light but detailed and pure redcurrant and cranberry-scented bouquet, suggestions of rose petal developing with aeration. The sample tasted at the property was showing a little more precision than others I have encountered. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, edgy tannin, a fine bead of acidity, a little brittle in texture but with tension on the smooth and refreshing finish. This is a worthy addition to the Right Bank 2013s and it should give a dozen years of pleasure. It deserves a round of applause for overcoming such a difficult growing season. (NM)
