2015 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1278875 97 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Sweet, elegant raspberry nose with lovely poise and clarity of fruit. A sleek attack, pure and delicate but not lacking in intensity. Finely textured but there's no lack of firm tannins coasting beneath the fruit. Beautifully balanced and very long, with beguiling finesse on the finish. Drinking Window 2019 - 2035. 96 points John Gilman

Outer quote mark The 2015 Clos des Lambrays includes ninety-five percent whole clusters this year and is a stunning wine in the making. The bouquet is deep, pure and very expressive out of the blocks, soaring from the glass in a blaze of black plums, sweet cassis, espresso, woodsmoke, gamebird, raw cocoa, a great base of dark soil tones and a nice framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with laser-like focus, great balance and grip and a very long, fine-grained and vibrant finish. This will take at least a decade to blossom, but it will be a great wine in the fullness of time. Inner quote mark (1/2017)

96 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Aromatic, offering hints of lavender, menthol and orange peel, but on the palate this becomes an immutable block, with a kernel of cherry, black currant, licorice and mineral flavors locked within. The tannins have the upper hand now, but this should develop well. Best from 2024 through 2047. (BS) Inner quote mark (5/2018)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2015 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru continues to show very well, unfurling in the glass with a rich bouquet of ripe plums, blackberries, dark chocolate and forest floor. On the palate, it's full-bodied, satiny and powerful, with an ample chassis of fine structuring tannins and a deep core of fruit, but the wine is shutting down and is more inscrutable than it was six months earlier. Readers with bottles in their cellars are sitting on a great example of Clos des Lambrays, one of the best produced since the 1970s, but a decade's patience is advised. 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark (100% vendange entier): Healthy dark red. Pure but tight aromas of raspberry, spices, rose petal, licorice and herbs. Densely packed and vibrant--impressively so for a 2015--with notes of bitter orange rind and peppery herbs accenting its flavors of red berries, brown spices, menthol, mocha and underbrush. Very savory wine with terrific spicy depth, as well as more punch than the 2016. Finishes very firm and extremely long, with serious but refined tannins and superb lift. An outstanding vintage for this grand cru, this wine combines the best characteristics of 2005 and 2010, and that's a formula for longevity and greatness. (ST) Inner quote mark (1/2018)

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark Here too the nose is quite ripe yet very fresh with its layered array of spicy and markedly floral-inflected black cherry and plum scents that are trimmed in both discreet wood and menthol nuances. There is impressive size, weight and power to the more mineral-driven and refined medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by a distinctly firm tannic spine on the wonderfully persistent and mildly austere finale. This is first-rate and one serious wine in 2015 and thus be prepared to allow it at least 10 to 12 years first. Inner quote mark (1/2018)

94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2015 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru has a pure, utterly seductive bouquet of raspberry coulis, wild strawberry, crushed stone and seamlessly integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins - a "serious" Grand Cru that has closed up in recent months. Foursquare, distant and aloof - but maybe that is what you seek at this stage? Not enjoyable but certainly a quality-driven wine that needs a decade in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (NM) Inner quote mark (11/2018)

K&L Notes

95pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Fine glowing mid red. The sensual nose shows warmth but not heat, slightly muting the whole bunch effect. Almost some peach flesh. The density is there and some firm tannins which currently stand out against the fruit, which has gone quiet. Even so, everything is very much in place and there is enough natural acidity. The pH is 3.48 (compared to 3.57 for 2017). No reason to downgrade my original rating but this is not giving pleasure now." (10/2019)
