2013 Accendo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1276526 92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Accendo's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a surprisingly open-knit, succulent wine for the year. There is good lift and creaminess throughout, but less of the energy, depth and structural intensity that is such a signature of this vintage. Mocha, black cherry, spice, and tobacco are some of the notes that open up in the glass. This is one of the more supple, accessible 2013 Cabernets readers will come across. Outer quote mark On solid footing, this is firm, tight, intense and focused, with a vibrant mix of zesty, earth-laced dark berry, cedar, crushed rock and subtle tobacco leaf notes. (JL, Web-2017) Inner quote mark

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark The aromas offer a mix of savoury characteristics with fresh black berries and plums. There is a light note of dark chocolate and light spice that is well integrated. Together they bring depth and density to the palate as well as vibrant fresh acidity and a lightly tactile, fine-grained tannin. The wine still has enough tension to benefit from decanting and will age a very long time. 2013 is regarded as one of Napa Valley’s most structural vintages. That character shows here but Peschon has also brought an elegant expression of a powerful vintage, which is impressive. This wine drinks with power moving through grace. 17.5+/20 points (ECB) Inner quote mark (10/2022)

I travelled to Oakville to see my high school friend and baseball teammate Bart Araujo, who is most notably known for his Araujo Eisele Cabernets. This time I went to taste his new project Accendo-Accendo Cellars 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is outstanding. Very much like a Bordeaux first growth in richest and complexity while holding the line on alcohol and oak. Red fruits abound on the nose and palate with nuances of Asian spice and cinnamon. Lush mid palate with great acidity and very round tannins. Like 2009 Bordeaux the fruit here covers the tannins. So sweet on the palate I drank three glasses-I don't spit these kind of wines. yes it is expensive but well worth the price. Bravo! Only 500 cases produced.
Drink from 2020 to 2035
