2015 Arnot-Roberts "Clary Ranch" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

SKU #1276496 94 points Vinous

An addition to the range 2015 Pinot Noir Clary Ranch is a terrific wine that captures the essence of the Arnot-Roberts house style. Intensely savory pungent (a quality share by the Syrahs here), the Clary Ranch possesses dazzling aromatic presence and overall nuance. The 100% whole clusters are felt in the wine's lift and aromatic intensity, while the fruit is a bit in the background. Readers should expect a pungent, almost Syrah-like Pinot with a lot of savoriness. (AG) (3/2017)

K&L Notes

Former Pax assistant winemaker Duncan Arnot Meyers and cooper Nathan Roberts produce beautiful, terroir-driven, varietally pure small production wines. They launched in 2003 and have been slowly, steadily gaining cult status. Clary Ranch is in one of the coolest windiest parts of the Sonoma Coast appellation. Information from the winery about the vineyard: "The Coast Range Mountains in Northern California take a sudden dip and nearly disappear around Bodega Bay in Sonoma County reemerging as the foot of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County to the South. It is at this point that cool air over the Pacific Ocean is drawn inland via convective forces through what is referred to as the “Petaluma Wind Gap”. Clary Ranch is planted on a hillside in the Middle Two Rock Valley."
