2015 Petit Figeac, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1263950 92-93 points James Suckling

This is very powerful with lots of dark chocolate and blueberry character. Full body, concentrated and chewy. 48% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot and 20% merlot. (4/2016)

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast

This wine is aromatic, with fine acidity and dusty tannins that are ripe and almost approachable. It is a generous, open wine with plenty of bright fruits and blackberry flavors. The acidity is what lifts the wine at the end.

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Composed of 32% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Petit Figeac reveals notes of warm cherries, red currant jelly, aniseed and forest floor with touches of wild blueberries and blackberries. Medium-bodied, very finely crafted, elegant and refreshing, it fills the mouth with open-knit red and black fruits, finishing with a velvety texture paving the way. (LPB) (2/2018)

91 points Wine Spectator

This delivers a delicious bolt of cassis, along with accents of cherry and plum preserves, backed by brambly grip and a roasted apple wood note. Still on the accessible side, and should be a solid drink while the big boys mature. Best from 2019 through 2027. (JM) (3/2018)

Jancis Robinson

35% of the crop; they have to make a second wine because they have quite a lot of young vines. 32% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon. Yield 41 hl/ha. Picked 21 September - 15 October (for very late Cabernet Franc)! 30% new oak and shorter élevage. Good drive and raciness on the nose. Real sinew and savour. Polished tannins but good Figeac character. A success! Superior ink. (4/2016)

The 2015 Petit-Figeac has come together nicely since I last tasted it. Fruity, forward and supple, it is tasty second wine meant to be enjoyed in its youth. The slightly roasted character I saw en primeur is less evident today. (AG) (2/2018)

Petit Figeac is definitely a wine for those who appreciate a balanced wine that although soft it does deliver a complex and well integrated experience. I appreciated that very much.

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
