Toro Albalá "Fino Electrico - 3 Fases" Fino Montilla Moriles

SKU #1263632 Jancis Robinson

Really above the average of Montilla Moriles Fino. Delicate, refreshing, salty, marine with an elegant yeasty character. Vivid but with a nutty appeal with really marked ageing notes such as toast and biscuit. Great intensity and depth. Extremely fresh bottle - although I know Spaniards are at an advantage in terms of sherry freshness. (FC) (3/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This is the Saca de Primavera 2017 (spring 2017 bottling) of the NV Fino Eléctrico del Lagar. In line with previous bottlings, it keeps freshness without losing character. (LG) (12/2017)

K&L Notes

Toro Albala's novel, light bulb shaped bottle, along with the brand name "Fino Electrico" is a tribute to the winery's past existence as the original power plant in Aguilar de la Frontera, just outside of Córdoba. This fino averages 5 years of age, and as with all finos from Montilla, no fortification is needed for the flor to thrive. Crisply fruited and saline, this does seem to have more textural heft, a different savor, and less saltiness compared to Fino from Jerez and El Puerto. This is one of the most locally requested finos in the nearby city of Córdoba and an authentic expression of Montilla fino. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)
