2012 Valle dell'Acate Cerasuolo di Vittoria Sicilia

SKU #1260968 92 points James Suckling

Very floral and fresh with strawberry and cherry. Full body, very fine tannins and a crisp and bright finish. (11/2015)

91 points Wine & Spirits

Nero d’Avola and Frappato grown in red, sandy soils coexist harmoniously in this smooth and polished wine, with notes of spice and licorice accenting its red cherry fruit. The flavors are rich and concentrated, lifted by light floral scents. This would make a delicious companion for roasted leg of lamb. (6/2016)

90 points Vinous

Deep ruby-red. Spicy and leafy nuances complicate aromas and flavors of ripe red and black cherry, coffee and cocoa. Polished on the palate, with bright, harmonious acidity and smooth tannins providing solid supporting backbone. The long finish shows a peppery edge. (ID) (12/2015)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2012 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico is composed of 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Frappato. This is a well composed and refreshing red wine that reveals bright berry nuances that are focused and well proportioned. The hearty and fleshy Nero d'Avola side of the wine makes a perfect partner to the graceful and feminine Frappato side. That symmetry is also evident in the mouth where the wine imparts silky tannins and a dry finish. (ML) (12/2015)

Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of ripe berry, Mediterranean herb, menthol and eucalyptus lead the nose. The medium-bodied palate is already somewhat evolved offering blackberry extract, mature black cherry, licorice, spice and espresso alongside polished tannins. It closes on a note of bitter walnut. (KO) (3/2016)

I think Cerasuolo di Vittoria is one of Sicily’s most refreshing wines, don’t get the idea it’s simple or light it’s just the blend of Nero d’Avola to give it some body and mid palate sweetness is the perfect foil for Frappato that adds lift, freshness and a vibrant cherry core. The nose is heavenly, wafting aromas of wild cherry and plum fills your nose and when the wine hits your palate you get a sense of weight and richness, not heavy because the Frappato’s acidity lifts it in the end. A perfect accompaniment for pasta or chicken.
Drink from 2017 to 2020
