1993 Domaine Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St. Jacques"

SKU #1259344 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Here is another life-affirming bottle of 1993 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques from Rousseau. This example showed a little more maturity in colour, but the nose is entrancing and develops beautiful raspberry preserve, pomegranate, cool stone and bay leaf scents that are quite intoxicating. The palate is fresh, crisp and brilliantly focused. It is still a feminine Clos Saint Jacques, the tannin so fine and now abraded by time. Yes, it has a nonchalant, easygoing personality that almost distracts you from its innate complexity. This remains a wonderful wine. (NM) Inner quote mark (6/2015)

Outer quote mark (multiple bottles opened from personal storage). A sweet, ripe and wonderfully complex nose mixing mostly secondary aromas with hints of still primary fruit soars from the glass followed by gorgeously detailed, elegant flavors supported by firm but now softening tannins that are completely buffered by abundant extract. The length is of undeniable grand cru quality and the acid/fruit balance is perfect and along with the '99, this may be the finest Rousseau Clos St. Jacques of the decade. While this will continue to age beautifully, it appears that most of the considerable potential has been realized though this will still be with us 25 years from now. Consistent notes. Outer quote mark While the 1993 Rousseau Chambertin is still quite primary in its profile, the ’93 Clos St. Jacques is really beginning to hit on all cylinders, and is showing some tertiary development on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is outstanding, as it offers up notes of cassis, black plums, bitter chocolate, woodsmoke, strong soil tones, blossoming notes of grilled meat, licorice, sous bois and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and amazingly focused, with fine mid-palate depth, beautiful framing acidity, and a very long, creamy and old viney finish. A great vintage for this fine wine. (Drink between 2005-2040). Inner quote mark (7/2006)

Outer quote mark Beautifully fruity and vibrant in character, packed with lively cherry and berry flavors that are focused, lingering and accented by buttery oak. Inner quote mark (9/1996)
