Fab nose. Licorice and dark cherries. What a palate. Full body, with super silky tannins and a long, long finish. Seductive juice, polished and gorgeous. This is next to Tertre Roteboeuf. (JS)

A rich and opulent red with a wonderful depth of fruit with plum, chocolate, and light cedar aromas and flavors. Full and juicy with silky tannins. So wonderful now but obviously much better in four to five years. Gorgeous.

Another wine to hit 15% natural alcohol, there are 2,000 cases of this blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. This estate is run by a young American entrepreneur, Steve Filipov, who uses Stephane Derenoncourt as his consultant. The 2009 is the best wine Godeau has yet produced. Made from 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from 35 year old vines, this deep purple wine exhibits notes of blueberry and blackberry fruit, a creamy, super-intense, full-bodied texture, low acid and ripe, velvety tannins. It is a stunning Godeau from a property that is probably under the radar for most American consumers. (RP)
