Hop Dogma Brewing Co. "Fides in Fermento - Knob Creek 7 Year Old K&L Barrel" Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, California (22oz)

SKU #1250493

Our spirits buyers are constantly sampling booze from around the world. When they find a sample that knocks their socks off, they purchase the entire barrel as a delicious single-barrel offering. Every once in a while, we end up with the physical barrel, which we gladly pass on to some of our favorite breweries to fill with beer. Back in July, we sent a Knob Creek 7-year-old bourbon barrel over to Hop Dogma to fill with their "Fides in Fermento" Imperial Stout. The beer rested for 7 months, was bottled and wax dipped last month, and is now ready to make it's debut!

I tasted this beer at a staff tasting on 4/12 (with about 40 other beers and ciders) and it was a standout. It is very chocolaty with soy sauce notes and a hint of oatmeal. I know that sounds terribly geeky but, I usually write up Champagne! Simply put, it was delicious and extremely interesting. I still need to mull over what to serve with it!

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
