2014 Domaine Paul Pernot Puligny-Montrachet

SKU #1237861 87-90 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Pale green-tinged yellow. Pure, fresh aromas of white peach, white flowers, lemon and noble herbs. Supple and juicy, showing surprisingly soft acidity to the flavors of lime, white peach and mint... (ST) Inner quote mark (9/2015)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2014 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a crisp, stony, Granny Smith apple-scented bouquet that is tightly wound, but you have to admire the mineralité conveyed here considering that this is a village cru. The palate is well balanced with pear, peach skin and ginger notes, maybe just a little too phenolic on the finish for my liking, but a white Burgundy that is full of character. Enjoy over 3-5 years, possibly more. Inner quote mark (1/2016)

K&L Notes

Stephen Tanzer on Pernot's 2014 vintage: " 'Very well balanced wines from healthy grapes' was Paul Pernot's description of his 2014s. 'There wasn't much juice in the grapes, so we made less than in 2013. But our yields are never low.' Both years have good acidity, he added, but there's more in 2014. And sugar levels in the grapes were high (around 13.5%), and some wines were not chaptalized. As is usually the case here, the malolactic fermentations of the 2014s had finished by December and the wines had been racked in late winter or early spring." (05/2015)

This super clean, limey white Burgundy defines Puligny for me. If you like focused, long, detailed wines, the 2014 Paul Pernot is for you. This is an ideal partner for a crab risotto or a scallop with polenta now, and still has plenty of time in hand if you want to age it.

Tasted at the property in October of 2015 – The Puligny Montrachet is quite fresh and yet still shows a very rich and layered middle palate with hints of baked apples, pear and green olive. This round, almost creamy wine should be wonderful to drink upon its release.
