Brasserie Lebbe "L'Amalthee" Saison, France (750ml)

SKU #1234786

Brewing at the base of the Pyrenees in southwest France, Pierre Lebbe uses barley farmed entirely from his own fields nearby to make his lovely saison. In order to keep his organic designation, he imports organically grown hops from Germany to complete the malting process. Using the right materials with such a light and delicate beverage is everything. When combined with mountain spring water from the nearby Pyrenees, the resulting beer is something quite magical. Those simple ingredients are combined to create a farmhouse ale of supreme grace. In fact, the beer is so light and refreshing that you’ll continuously look down at your glass and find that it’s empty. (David Driscoll, K&L buyer)

France is not famous for its beer, but this Basque beauty is worthy of your attention! This has depth and intrigue, but not at at the expense of moreish refreshment. A 750ml of this goes down quite quickly. I have a question: why does the best beer in France have to come from the opposite side of the country to Champagne? I would love to see just one tap handle of this in Epernay... I would become a fixture in that bar!

Recently during a cold rainy evening I made broccoli-cheddar soup and I looked through my wines to see what I was going to serve with it. I found this bottle of Brasserie L'Amalthee Saison that I had picked up and forgotten about. Fortunately I decided to open it and it was perfect. Light and easy drinking with just the right amount of bitter to cut through the rich and creamy soup, this is simply a tasty beer. Sometimes I do not want a super complex, interesting beer, sometimes I just want a great beer to drink with my meal, and this is one I will keep around for such occasions.

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
