2013 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Clos des Porrets St-Georges"

SKU #1233411 93 points John Gilman

Outer quote mark The 2013 Clos de Porrets from the Gouges family is an outstanding young bottle of Nuits, wafting from the glass in a very refined constellation of black cherries, cassis, espresso, game, woodsmoke and a complex signature of soil. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off outstanding depth at the core, with great refinement on the attack, bright acids and ripe tannins adding excellent structural integrity on the very long, soil-driven and classy finish. An excellent wine in the making. Inner quote mark (12/2014)

Outer quote mark Here too there is enough reduction to render an evaluation of the nose difficult. There is outstanding volume and density to the almost painfully intense middle weight flavors that exhibit notably better minerality on the generously proportioned, powerful and exceptionally long finish. This provides an interesting contrast in textures as the mid-palate is supple thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins yet the linear finish is robust to the point of rusticity. Note too that despite the fine grain of the tannins they are dense and firm so patience will be required. *Outstanding* Inner quote mark (1/2015)

92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a gentle but irresistible bouquet with vivid red cherries, bergamot and wild hedgerow scents that billow from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness on the entry. There is an edginess to the red fruit here and towards the finish that the texture almost becomes brittle. But there is a sense of energy in situ endowed with wonderful delineation. This appears to have meliorated in recent months. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte. (NM) Inner quote mark (10/2018)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark The initial impact of animal and earth aromas gives way to cherry, raspberry, earth and spice flavors. Solidly structured and long, with an aftertaste of blackberry and tar. (BS) Inner quote mark (7/2016)

90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Bright, deep red. Very ripe, chocolatey nose. Rich, sappy and densely packed, conveying a broad-shouldered solidity to its flavors of liqueur-like dark fruits, licorice and dark chocolate. Very solidly built wine with serious but nicely enrobed tannins spreading out and lingering on the chewy back end. (ST) Inner quote mark (1/2015)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint Georges has a gorgeous bouquet with lucid red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, fine mineralité and tension plus well-integrated oak. The palate is fresh and lively with vivid red cherry and crushed strawberry notes (again), fine tannin and good weight. There is still some oak towards the finish to be subsumed but otherwise this is a well-crafted, linear Nuits Saint Georges with style and nuance. It will probably drink a little sooner than the 2013 Pruliers. Tasted September 2016. (NM) Inner quote mark (11/2016)
