2013 Zind Humbrecht Brand Riesling Grand Cru Alsace

SKU #1233246 98 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark The aromas of stone, lime and flowers are amazing. Full body, great depth of fruit and tightness. Muscular yet agile. It is a subtle wine showing great complexity. Intense mineral. Tightly wound. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Inner quote mark (9/2015)

96 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Straw-yellow with a golden tinge. Anise and green apple with a hint of pear on the enticing, powerful nose. Fresh yet very dense, tactile and rich, with lemony acidity lifting the potent chamomile, orange marmalade, spice and stone flavors. The expansive, very pure finish shows uncanny refinement and outstanding length. A much less obvious Brand than usual, classically dry and built for a long life in bottle. (ID) Inner quote mark (2/2016)

96 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Very faint notes of mandarine and earth emanate from this delicate, closed wine. All the flavors are subdued and delicate with flinty smoke making an appearance here and there. All of this suggests that this is far too young to be approached: the structure, however, suggests delicacy and balance, tender flavors of linearity and precision. Smoke and salt characterize the long finish. Inner quote mark (4/2016)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark An intense citrus color dresses the 2013 Riesling Brand Grand Cru, which offers a deep and intense aroma of super ripe citrus aromas along with mineral flavors that reflect the steep, south-facing granite site very well. On the palate, the wine has much more freshness, finesse and purity than expected from the nose, and seems to be a flowing mountain range with a lemon taste and Mediterranean herbs in the aftertaste. This is a very persistent, salty and impressive wine for the next 15 or more years. A little bit of bottle age may help, but seems not really necessary at least at the moment of tasting in July 2015. Inner quote mark (10/2015)

94 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark Selected from two parcels at Brand where the vines are 63 years old, this grows on a steep hillside facing directly south. Humbrecht describes the soil as biotite granite, black mica that leaves mineral deposits in the clay. The roots of the old vines reach deep into those soils, where mineral content may influence their metabolism. They create a wine in stereo sound, concentrated with the peach fuzz and pear skin flavor volume turned up high. The depth of flavor settles in and lasts, along with scents of lemongrass and spice, a heady and luscious wine with tension that holds it to a classical line. Built to cellar. 93 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Aromatic, with honeysuckle and smoke notes wafting through the finely knit flavors of nectarine, star fruit, pink grapefruit zest, ground white pepper and ginger, supported by a rich streak of minerality. A full-bodied, compact white, showing firm acidity throughout. Inner quote mark (10/2015)

91 points Decanter

Outer quote mark The Brand vineyard is located on a steep, mineral-rich south facing slope. Made from vines with an average age of over 60 years, the result is a wine with quite intense stone, lime and honey aromas. The palate has a lovely minerality and great length, with a zippy citrus acidity that runs throughout. (JB) Inner quote mark (2/2017)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Very pale straw. Perfumed and reminiscent of a Grosses Gewächs on the nose. Quite rich and dense on the palate. Somehow cool and restrained with a slightly bitter note on the end. (JR) 17/20 Inner quote mark (6/2016)
