K&L Notes

The excellent Benromach 15 year was added to the core line in 2015. It's one of the best values for old Speyside on the market today. Designed to capture the old style of Speyside using both ex-bourbon and sherry casks, the Benromach 15 year offers something for every malt lover. Big malty spice, round rich fruit, bold complex oak and an unbeatable price. Winner of the 2018 World Whisky Awards "Best Speyside Single Malt," Benromach should be considered a staple of any serious back bar. 94 Points from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Serge Valentine of Whisky Fun describes it eloquently, " Nose: ah this typical sooty note, not quote smoky, or at least not quite peaty, rather around coal, then sour cigars, soot, ashes, shoe polish, diesel oil… Once again we're on the axis of the waxy, which, as well know, starts in Campbeltown. Mouth: big umami, black and green tea, chalky and waxy broths (should some one ever prepare that), bitter oranges, Jerusalem artichokes, burnt Brussels sprouts (not joking), a little burnt caramel too… There really is an oddness to this make, but that really is an asset here. Finish: long and bitter, on concentrated turnip and spinach extracts. Yeah I know. Comments: extremely singular, at some point this baby would make Springbank taste like Glenkinchie. Quite. Unchanged."
