2013 Williams Selyem "Allen Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1218953 96 points Wine Enthusiast

A vineyard for both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Allen is exquisitely detailed in this textured bottling that’s weighty, with a tannin backdrop and replete with savory fruit. Wild strawberry, Bing cherry and black tea stand out, with an undercurrent of lushness that’s hard to resist. *Editors’ Choice* (VB) (5/2016)

93 points Vinous

(13.7% alcohol; 3.56 pH; from a big crop of large berries): Medium red. Explosive nose combines raspberry, dried strawberry and a whiff of graphite. Surprisingly sappy and tightly wound, with dark berry and saline mineral flavors conveying a musky, savory character. Finishes with lovely length and mineral grip. This wine has been shy from the start, according to Mangahas. Incidentally, the 2012 through 2015 harvests were all carried out earlier than the previous year--and all of them in the first half of August. (ST) 93+ (6/2018)

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

An overtly spicy and markedly cool nose features notes of mostly red berries, in particular cherry and raspberry, along with a subtle floral nuance. There is a sleek and suave mouth feel to the delicious and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess fine concentration before culminating in a balanced, complex and beautifully persistent finale. Lovely and harmonious. *Outstanding* (4/2016)

90 points Connoisseurs Guide

Nicely ripened and fairly precise but a bit held back in the nose and a little tighter than most of its siblings on the palate, this medium-full-bodied youngster is drawn along slightly firmer, more acidy lines and very clearly wants a few years in which to relax and blossom. There is no doubting that it will, but just when and how much is hard to predict, and we would opt to set it aside for now and check in on its progress after a few years have passed. *One Star* (2/2016)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2013 Pinot Noir Allen Vineyard has a dark ruby/purple-tinged color, notes of forest floor, and loads of raspberries and black cherries. It is medium-bodied, offers good acidity, and should age beautifully for 10 years. (RP) 90+ (3/2016)

K&L Notes

92 points Antonio Galloni for Vinous: "One of the more understated wines in the range, the 2013 Pinot Noir Allen Vineyard is not obvious, nor are its charms immediately apparent, but it offers lovely textural balance to match its pleasing, welcoming personality. It will be interesting to see if the Allen develops into a more complex wine with bottle age. For now, it is a dark horse in this lineup." (8/2016)
