2010 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino

SKU #1217687 98 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark What a tightly knit wine this is with so much fabulous character of dried meat, orange peel, berry and spice. Dried and dusty earth too. Full body, sweet fruit character and ripe tannins but loads of structure and intensity. Structurally intense and dry at the finish. It goes on for minutes. Best ever. Inner quote mark (12/2014)

Outer quote mark The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. Vibrant and alive in the glass, the 2010 is impeccable in its balance. Sweet red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco and Mediterranean herbs are some of the notes that are laced together in a Brunello of exquisite beauty. Rose petal, mint and a host of floral/savory notes develop in the glass. The expansive, broad finish is a thing of beauty. The very best qualities of the year come through loud and clear in a mysterious, seductive Brunello that will provide fabulous drinking over the next 20-30 years. What a fabulous and noble wine the 2010 is. (AG) Inner quote mark (2/2015)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Mastrojanni's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino marks a gorgeous effort that excels beautifully in terms of intensity, finesse and balance. The wine shows seamless integration of bright fruit tones that are characteristic of the vintage, with savory spice (it is aged in botte grande for three years), tight tannins and bright acidity. In other words, this is textbook 2010 Brunello in all its glory. That sense of harmony is impeccable. The best asset is what the future will bring. You can count on this Brunello to age 10 to 20 years. Mastrojanni has reached new heights with this stellar base Brunello and I can't wait to taste the vineyard-designate expressions when they are ready. (ML) Inner quote mark (2/2015)

94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Plush and round, with plum, leather, licorice and savory elements fused to the burly tannins. There's adequate acidity here, keeping this fresh and focused on the long finish. Needs time. (BS) Inner quote mark (6/2015)

93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Aromas of meat juices, underbrush, savory spice and a whiff of espresso open this structured wine. The vibrant palate offers dried Morello cherry, fleshy raspberry, ground pepper, grilled herb and tobacco alongside bracing but fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Hold for more complexity. (KO) Inner quote mark (5/2015)

The nose smells of savory meats, spiced with dried fruit, tea, bergamot, almost like Earl Grey. On the palate the underlying tannic structure is present yet balanced, its power frames the wine in your mouth. The flavors are molten, a compote of meat, dried fruit, leather, with hints of a cedar like richness. The… I wish to write earthy but most will think of it as a more dirt like character, this isn’t, it is more subterranean, primal, salty, that earthy nature dominates the finish which is one of the best of this vintage a truly, spectacular length and ongoing flavor.
Drink from 2015 to 2030
