2009 Hundred Acre "Deep Time - Ancient Way Vineyard Summer's Block" Barossa Valley Shiraz

SKU #1210698 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Very deep garnet colored, the 2009 Ancient Way Vineyard Deep Time was in barrel for 60 months and has a pronounced, provocatively scented nose of Christmas cake, plum pudding, Indian spices and incense with suggestions of cardamom, eucalyptus, mocha and peppered salami. Big, rich and full-bodied, the velvety textured palate is bursting with black berry preserves, raisin cake and exotic spices with a refreshing lift on the very long finish. (LPB) (12/2018)

Dark purple. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit compote, singed plum, cola and mocha scents are complemented by notes of violet pastille and licorice. Broad, palate-coating blackberry liqueur and fruitcake flavors show striking depth and a plush, velvety texture. Decadently rich but surprisingly lively, finishing with superb power and thrust and smooth, late-arriving tannins. (JR) (7/2014)

90 points Wine Spectator

Soft and thick, this red offers a toasted walnut character that runs through the rich flavors of plum and currant fruit, finishing with presence. Not for those looking for elegance. (HS) (4/2015)

K&L Notes

The team behind "Deep Time" Napa Valley Cabernet and the cult Hundred Acre label went deep Down Under for some powerful, old vine Shiraz. From the winery: "The Ancient Way is no ordinary vineyard. Rising to the top of a hill overlooking Greenock Creek Winery, it presides over some of the finest vineyards in all of Australia; it is in the core of what they call the Golden Mile. It is the ancient gateway to this valley and the most beautiful countryside that one could hope to see. The land itself is one of the oldest vineyard sites in the country."
