Another terrific cuvee from winemaker Anthony Yount and a sensational expression of the variety, the 2012 Sacred Burro is 100% Carignan (aged 22 months in used 500-liter barrels) that just about instantly transported me back to the Roussillon in southern France. Giving up awesome notes of plums, violets, peppery herbs and old leather, it's medium to full-bodied, shockingly pure, balanced and textured, with uncommon sweetness to its tannin. (JD) (8/2015)
Distinctive and racy, with pomegranate and smoked pepper aromas, offering layered, vibrant flavors of cherry, tobacco and herb. The tannins are lively, lending the wine focus. (TF) (3/2016)
