2009 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Fay Hillside" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1204453

Fay Vineyard's Cabernet Sauvignon vines were the first planted in what is now known as the Stag's Leap District, way back in 1961. It was these vines, in fact, that inspired Warren Winiarski to create Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, proving to him that this was land that could produce wines that would rival the best in the world. This was only available to wine club members. Only 291 cases produced. There are 26 blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the Fay vineyard. The "Hillside" is comprised of blocks on the eastern hillside, closest to the Palisades and its volcanic soils, blocks winemaker Nicki Pruss considers the backbone of the vineyard. These vines' small berries and small clusters are intensely flavored, with great grip. Winery note: "The 2009 FAY Hillside has classic Cabernet Sauvignon character with briary black currant, green olive and chocolate-covered cherry aromas and flavors. The wine has structured, yet fine-grained, tannins and an opulent texture."
