2010 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan

SKU #1201859 93 points Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very concentrated bouquet with dense blackberry, briary, crushed stone and tobacco on the nose that unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. There is a lot of extraction here, but it is in tune with the acidity and the structured finish has plenty of vibrant red fruit and energy to see it through to the long term. (NM) Inner quote mark (3/2014)

92-93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This is a wine that shows lots of chocolate, tobacco and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. All there. Inner quote mark (4/2011)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Offers lush fruit, with dark raspberry and boysenberry notes, good, graphite-laced structure and bright acidity weaving throughout. The long, smoldering finish features an appealing licorice snap and violet profile. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2013)

91 points Int'l Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Good dark ruby-red. Wild aromas of black cherry, incense and sexy oak. Smooth, plush and rich, with rather full-bodied flavors of plum, tobacco, flowers, minerals and herbs. The sweet finish features a fine dusting of tannins that will not get in the way of enjoying this wine soon. (ST) Inner quote mark (7/2013)

91 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Barrel sample. A spicy, aromatic wine that shows powerful wood character as well as fruit tannins. The style is dark, firmly tannic, powerful, very dense. (RV) Inner quote mark (6/2011)

K&L Notes

92 points Robert Parker for Wine Advocate: "From Helene Garcin, this blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot displays classic tobacco leaf and smoky barbecue notes along with rich black currants and crushed rocks in a medium to full-bodied, seductive, attractively up-front style. It is a sleeper of the vintage." (RP) (02/2013)

Made under Hélène Garcin's watch — composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot that aged 16 months in 50% new barriques. Deep, dark cassis on the nose with hints of cola and toasty, vanilla oak. Flavors of cassis, bay leaves, cola, vanilla, and minerals, followed by a lengthy finish. Pair with a juicy steak or grilled veggies.

I am stunned. This wine took my breath away and I was in love at the cork pop. Hello gorgeous you with dark opulent blackberries, voluptuous tannins and unforgettable personality. It has the power and the body of 2010 that you expect but is so elegantly harmonious. Harmony in fruit, body, balance and the finish. Go ahead, try it and be in love!

Red fruited nose with earth, minerals, and menthol. On the palate, quite dry with some chalky notes and fleshy red fruits, dark red cherry, red currant, and a touch of boysenberry. Quite mouth filling.

Smoky dark currants, black raspberry and freshly picked blackberries jump from this as soon as it is poured. With air the wine takes on some exotic spice and gravel aromas and finishes with intense minerality. At just over 10 years old this is really beginning to strut.

What a delicious wine at eleven years of age. Just coming of age, like many of the big, tannic 2010s. Plenty of minerality on the nose and palate. Black fruits abound on the palate. The tannins have softened and the fruit really stands out. Still-decant for one hour and enjoy with a big juicy steak. Will cellar well another ten years.
Drink from 2021 to 2030
