2002 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Syrah

SKU #1200793 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Good full ruby. Superripe aromas of mocha, gunflint, minerals and roasted game. Sweet on entry, then aromatic and minerally, with vinous, lively flavors of dark fruits, dark chocolate and spices. Not thick but intensely flavored and juicy. Finishes long and slightly saline. A step up from the 2001 bottling, which showed more of a late-harvest character. (ST) (5/2004)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2002 Syrah displays Bob Foley’s ability to adapt to different varietals and winemaking styles. This wine has an opaque purple color and a big nose of charcoal, blackberry liqueur, and toasty oak with a hint of espresso. The wine is opulent, voluptuously textured, and creamy styled, with that plush texture of 2002 well-displayed. Acidity, tannin, wood, and alcohol are all nicely disguised by the wine’s wealth of fruit and glycerin. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. (RP) (2/2005)
