2007 Thiénot "Cuvée Garance" Brut Blanc de Rouges Champagne

SKU #1196488 93 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Named after the vigneron’s daughter and 100% Pinot Noir, the 2007 Thienot Cuvée Garance is ripe and sexy, with a beautifully layered style in its buttered apples, white flowers, and flinty minerality as well as plenty of brioche and earthiness. It's rich and textured, with a ready-to-go style. Inner quote mark (3/2019)

Outer quote mark Named after the daughter of owner Alain Thiénot, this Champagne comes from the Montagne de Reims. Full and rich, it is mature with toast and almond flavors as much as fruit. The vanilla flavor is balanced by the acidity and tight, zesty aftertaste. Drink now. (RV) Inner quote mark (12/2016)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark An expressive version, with vibrant acidity providing fine cut, and flavors of wild berry, toasted brioche, orange pâte de fruit and clover honey riding the finely detailed bead. Smoky on the finish. Enjoy this rich, balanced version with food. (AN, Web Only-2016) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

This bottling is named after Garance Thienot, who handles the communications and marketing for the family firm. They have chosen to call this Champagne "Blanc de Rouges" instead of "Blanc de Noirs" because of the effort that they put into keeping the wine feminine. This is 100% Pinot Noir and a large proportion of the fruit comes from the grand cru Aÿ that the family purchased from Krug as well as from Garance's own personal vines in the village of Tauxières, on the border with Bouzy. This is one of the most intriguing, delicate examples of pure Pinot Champagne that I have tasted, and the quality of the fruit reminded me very much of Volnay even if the wine was straw golden in color. This very elegant, lifted wine won't make you doubt its all-Pinot Noir composition, and the long chalky finish will leave you wanting more. Like all of the Thiénot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly 70 acres of vines. This was one of THE discoveries of my 2013 trip! This fantastic 100% pinot noir selection was a big hit at our last customer Champagne tasting. Tart, red berries on the nose with some rich, creamy notes. On the palate, round but, not overly ripe dark, red fruits. The finish is also rich and round but, surprise(!) it is clean and lingering. A small production of only 5000 bottles. This is one of those beautiful champagnes that can hold up to steak and venison.
