2004 Liberalia Liber Toro Gran Reserva

SKU #1196344 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The flagship 2004 Liberalia Liber, from a magnificent vintage (the wine is produced only in the greatest years, 2004 being the first and 2009 the next) was sourced from vines up to 130 years of age. It spent 30 months in new French oak as well as 2 years of aging at the Bodega prior to release. Dense purple in color, it reluctantly surrenders a brooding bouquet of new oak, black fruits, exotic spices, and floral aromas. Powerful but nicely proportioned, it mandates another 8-10 years of cellaring and should see its 30th birthday in fine form. (JM) 96+ Inner quote mark (5/2011)

K&L Notes

100% Toro Ink grape, (an adaptation of Tempranillo to the area), the vineyards over 100 years old. Twenty-four months of aging are spent in French oak barrels and thirty-six months are then in the bottle for the wine to harmonize. Decanting is recommended to unleash all of the wonderful aromatics and layers of flavors. Winery note: "Visually it is a garnet red wine with ruby ??reflections. It has an intense, complex aroma that begins with blackberry and black plum which provide freshness. The finish is spicy with pepper, cloves, licorice, and French oak that then meld with a balance of balsamic and tobacco notes."
