The 2010 Sumo is showing beautifully today. Everything comes together in the glass. The 2010 is rich, powerful and intense, yet wonderfully nuanced for such a big wine. Floral and spice notes add lift, but it is the dark blue/purple Petite Sirah fruit that dominates. This utterly irresistible wine is just beginning to hit its stride. The blend is 88% Petite Sirah, 10% Syrah and 2% Viognier. (AG)

Dense and meaty, with rock star aromas of smoked black fruits, licorice, big minerality, underbrush, and hints of coffee grinds, it hits the palate with a full-bodied, decadent, and exceedingly rich feel that somehow also manages to stay light, clean, and fresh. While it is certainly a brilliant drink now, it should age effortlessly for upwards of two decades. 94+

A rich, explosive mix of blueberry, blackberry and dried berry, with crushed rock, roasted coffee, mineral and cedar accents. Despite displaying power and intensity, this shows a touch of subtlety and finesse. (JL)

Saturated bright ruby. Expressive aroma of crushed black fruits, licorice pastille, violet and lily. Dense, chewy, rich and sweet, with captivating flavors of dark cherry, cocoa powder, flowers and saline, rocky minerality. Finishes with huge, dusty tannins, lingering cocoa powder and floral nuances and very good black pepper lift. This highly concentrated and unusually classy Petite Sirah benefits from its Syrah component. (ST) 93+
