The estate's Northern Rhône-inspired release and a blockbuster in the making, the 2012 The Dirt Worshipper Estate checks in as a blend of 95% Syrah, 3% Viognier and 2% Roussanne. It was fermented with 50% whole clusters and saw 20 months in 15% new French oak. It's a beautiful wine that has classy notes of cracked pepper, olive paste, bacon fat and sweet black raspberry fruit. These give way to a medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless and youthful wine that has striking purity of fruit and plenty of fine tannin. (JD) 94+

Vinous
The 2012 Dirt Worshipper emerges from a collection of Central Coast sites, with an increasing emphasis on cooler, coastal microclimates. Lavender, violets, plums and sweet spices are some of the many notes that jump from the glass in a nuanced, drop-dead gorgeous wine loaded with class. The 2012 is 95% Syrah with dollops of Viognier and Roussanne. The 50% whole clusters are nearly imperceptible. (AG)

A depth charge of dark, dense fruit built around a core of ripe but firm mineral-tinged tannins, offering notes of blueberry, tobacco, game and cracked pepper. Hands-off for now. (TF)
