Wine Advocate
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is still an infant, offering up a bouquet of crème de cassis, blackberries and flowers, framed by new oak, which could easily pass for a barrel sample. On the palate, it's full-bodied, generous and supple, with fine-grained structuring tannins and good mid-palate depth in a vintage that can sometimes be a bit open-knit and easygoing. (JD)

Vinous
Glass-staining ruby. An expressive bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, cherry compote and licorice, along with a smoky topnote and a hint of floral oil. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering intense dark fruit preserve flavors that stretch out slowly with aeration. Smooth, open-knit and concentrated, finishing with strong thrust and supple, slowly building tannins. (ST)

Connoisseurs Guide
This very solid and sturdy rendition is further evidence that good things are afoot with Paso Robles Cabernet, and, although a decidedly tannic youngster in need of a lengthy stay in cellar, it is a deep and densely packed effort of unquestioned potential. It is fully ripe but backs away from the come-hither sweetness that might tempt early drinking, and its long, relatively tight, well-extracted flavors are those of a wine that will need some eight to ten years before growing into its best.

Wine Enthusiast
A very high-toned, wound-up nose slowly reveals chalky aromas, concentrated purple fruit and crushed violets on this bottling by the Daou brothers. The palate is also tight and slow to release, with hints of dark chocolate chips, espresso bean and black fruit lingering behind a walls of tannins and bright acidity. This will age well, but certainly wait a little longer to open. (MK)
