2009 Tenuta di Trinoro Toscana Rosso

SKU #1194844 99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark If you ask Andrea Franchetti to name his two favorite vintages of the past, they are 2001 and 2009. The 2009 Tenuta di Trinoro is indeed an outstanding blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is showing beautifully right now and promises more excellence to carry it forward over the years. At the moment, it is seamless and infinite with a superior sense of balance and dark fruit integrity. It speaks in a loud, clear and articulate voice. The wine's appearance shows a dark, impenetrable color that underlines the ideal growing conditions of the vintage and the slow fruit-ripening. The aromas are stunning and perfectly balanced, showing both elegance and power. The tannins deliver dimension and a firmly unyielding quality that bodes very well for the future evolution of this stunning wine. Inner quote mark (12/2015)

Outer quote mark The estate's 2009 Tenuta di Trinoro presents exotic notes of wild cherries, plums, spices, minerals and licorice all of which come together on a silky, polished frame. Smoke, incense and a host of other seductive, beguiling aromas and flavors add complexity as they wrap around the seriously intense finish. The 2009 Tenuta shows off marvelous intensity and a full-throttle personality while retaining a touch more freshness than is sometimes the case. (AG) Inner quote mark (8/2011)

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Bright red-ruby. Explosive aromas of red cherry, blueberry, mocha, vanilla and sweet pipe tobacco. Utterly palate-saturating yet weightless, conveying wonderful clarity and cut to its crushed red fruit, floral and sweet brown spice flavors. Very impressive on the extremely long, silky finish, where the flavors build slowly and inexorably, showing outstanding lift and creamy sweetness. This should evolve in bottle for decades, but even today it's impossible to resist. The 2009 vintage was another hot one, but overcast and cooler fall weather in the Sarteano area allowed Franchetti to pick later than usual. The extended hang time has allowed for one of the most impressive young Trinoros in some time; the wine is also different than usual in that it's relatively top-heavy with Merlot. 94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Well-defined flavors of black cherry, black currant, raspberry, vanilla and chocolate mark this rich, dense and tannic red. Tight and compact on the finish, this will need time to hit its stride. Gains suppleness and length with air. Inner quote mark (9/2013)

K&L Notes

94-97 points Lisa Perrotti-Brown in Wine Advocate: "Very deep garnet-purple in color, there’s tons of fruit on the nose – warm plums and black cherry – with supporting notes of pencil shavings, cassia, black pepper and fresh tilled loam. Full bodied, rich and with a medium-high level of velvety tannins, there’s a nice backbone of crisp acidity providing freshness through the long finish."
