2010 Latour-Martillac, Pessac-Léognan (3L)

SKU #1191139 93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2010 La Tour Martillac vindicates itself as perhaps the 'insiders' choice' from Pessac-Léognan. It has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, cassis, black olive and estuarine scents bouquet that is very complex and involving. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a pinch of black pepper towards the smooth and harmonious finish. It remains very backward but there is immense potential here. (NM) Inner quote mark (4/2020)

93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark This is an austere, structured wine. Its tannic framework currently dominates, giving the impression of a firm wine. It feels like classic Bordeaux, upright and dense. This makes for a wine that will need several years' aging. Inner quote mark (5/2013)

92-93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark I love the mid-palate to this young and attractive red, with silky tannins and alluring mineral, berry and stone character. Enchanting. Inner quote mark (4/2011)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Dense, but supple along the edges, offering a packed core of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruit. The lovely licorice, dark tobacco and violet notes glide to the finish, which shows solid, latent grip. Inner quote mark (3/2013)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Abundant notes of spicy oak, elegant black currants and rich fruitiness along with hints of forest floor and damp earth are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with sweet tannin and the classic Pessac-Leognan/Graves characteristics of tobacco leaf and smoke. Deep fruit, moderate tannin and a long finish give this wine enough potential to last for up to two decades or more. (RP) 90+ Inner quote mark (2/2013)

K&L Notes

Still 90 points in a Wine Advocate update review: "Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Latour Martillac gives up notes of crushed rocks, tar and black olives over a core of stewed plums, cedar chest and dried herbs with a touch of dried cranberries. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid frame of chewy tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the muscular fruit, finishing savory." (3/2020, LPB)
