2012 Limerick Lane Russian River Valley Zinfandel

SKU #1190989 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A delicious, heady, sexy offering, the 2012 Zinfandel Limerick Lane Estate tips the scales at 14.8% alcohol. Its deep plum/ruby/purple color is followed by a super-seductive perfume of jammy red and black fruits, a full-bodied opulence, impressive purity and a long, heady finish. Another great example of top-flight winemaking using wonderful old vine materials, it should drink well for 7-10 years. This long-moribund winery, which started off so impressively and then went through several personal tragedies, has been resurrected under new ownership by the Bilbro family, who has long-owned the Marietta Cellars winery (known for their sensational values). Brothers Jake and Scott Bilbro are doing a magnificent job with the Limerick Lane wines, most Zinfandel-dominated efforts, but also some intriguing blends that readers will adore. Outer quote mark A knockout Zinfandel, balancing an opulent texture with great focus and depth. Aromas of rose petal and raspberry lead to rich and layered flavors of cherry, herbes de Provence and cracked white pepper. Finishes with a bounce of acidity and ripe, lively tannins. *#12 on the Top 100 Wines of 2015* (TF) Inner quote mark (4/2015)

Outer quote mark The 2012 Zinfandel Russian River Valley is gorgeous. Racy and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2012 impresses for its overall balance and personality. Bright red stone fruits, mint, spices, tobacco and new leather are all super-expressive. Veins of acidity give the flavors notable lift and precision. (AG) Inner quote mark (1/2015)

This is silky, creamy and wonderfully balanced with no sense of heat on the long finish despite the substantial alcohol. I wish more Zinfandel bottlings showed this finesse and equilibrium. All the rich fruit you could want but no heaviness.

The wine is spectacular without a doubt. A perfect combination of of bright, forward ripeness with a perfect combination of multiple spices including cinnamon, black pepper, lavender and marjoram. Lovely acidity and soft tannin make this a wine for tonight or two years from now. Jake and Scott Bilbro have taken the Limerick Lane wines to a whole other level. The wine is very limited so pick up a couple bottles while you can.

An old vine selection from the Russian River Valley--and always one of the best in Sonoma. Their 2012 is classic Limerick Lane, a lush Zin packed with flavors of dense plum and blueberry with a touch of pepper.

I rarely write up Zinfandel because I generally find them to be too jammy and sweet. Last week, January 22nd to be precise, we had a mini-ZAP tasting in our SF store. Limerick Lane was one of the wineries present and it was one of the best Zinfandels that I have had in a number of years. It has a richness to it, yes, with red plum and blackberry fruit, nice hints of spice and just a touch of cocoa. It is deep and rich but, with great character, nuance and fineness. It holds your interest. A few other jaded co-workers also expressed their positive views of the Limerick Lane wines that evening. So, I can pretty safely say that this is pretty much a wine for everyone! P.S. From past experience, this wine ages extremely well!
Drink from 2015 to 2023
