With more of everything, the 2010 Les Origines is a serious effort that has thrilling richness and depth. A blend of 50% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre that’s aged for 18 months in new oak, it has a deep, rich bouquet of blackberry, crème de cassis, licorice, leather, graphite, and spice-box that gives way to a full-bodied, perfectly balanced Châteauneuf-du-Pape that builds on the palate, with fantastic richness, ripe tannin, and a finish that won’t quit. Despite its stint in oak, it barely shows and the overall impression here is one of deep, concentrated, and pure fruit. This should be give 5-6 years of bottle age, and then consumed over the following 15 years or longer.

Another blockbuster is the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines. A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre (45- to-95-year-old vines) aged in small oak, it exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of blackberries, espresso roast, ink and graphite. While clearly a modern-styled Chateauneuf du Pape, it retains plenty of the region's typicity and authenticity. It should drink well for 15+ years. (RP)

Inky purple. Ripe cherry and dark berry aromas are complicated by notes of spicecake and potpourri. Fleshy and expansive, offering sweet cherry-vanilla and blueberry flavors lifted by juicy acidity. Smooth, harmonious tannins lend shape to an impressively long finish, with lingering notes of floral pastilles and Asian spices. (JR)

Racy, offering delicious dark bramble, linzer torte and blackberry notes, with a strong graphite edge coursing through the finish. Gains density and flesh on the finish, which bodes well for the cellar. A modern style, but shows solid grounding in its terroir. Best from 2014 through 2022. (JM)

In conversion to organic. 55% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre. 45% spends 16 months in barrique, 55% spends 16 months in concrete. Notably deep crimson Very spicy brooding nose. Sweet, mulberry start and then freshness and very clean tannins on the finish. A very ambitious wine. Dramatic. 17.5/20 points. (JR)

Additional commentary from Robert Parker: "Credit Christophe and Sebastian Jaume for making this one of the most impeccably run estates in the Rhone Valley. To reiterate, this is an estate at the top of its game and the wines remain fairly priced as well. The 2010 Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Papes reveal youthful, crisper, more focused styles than their 2009 counterparts. I suspect their pHs are lower, the total acids slightly higher, and the alcohols perhaps .5 to 1% lower across the board." (10/2011) 15% abv.
